Instead, donate it! This NYC Professional Office Organizer has a list of organizations local to NYC as well as throughout the country that will eagerly accept your used items which keeps them out of landfills while minimizing the clutter in your office!

LOCAL NYC EVENTS

Getting to Zero. In support of the NYC Zero Waste campaign (mentioned below), Getting to Zero is providing tours of facilities that take donations and are working to reach the zero waste goal. You can learn why donating your used goods is important and how you can help.

Stop N’ Swap. These events are all around the city and are looking for clean, reusable items such as clothing, housewares, and books. You can donate your used goods and swap them for any items you may need.

LOCAL NYC DONATION PROGRAMS

NYC Zero Waste. New York City has pledged to contribute zero waste to landfills by 2030. To do so, they are focusing on spreading the word about how to donate your used goods. There will be initiatives around the city and with other nonprofit organizations. You can take the pledge and learn about their programs here.

New York Cares. You can make a difference as a business working together to support New York Cares. They have a corporate relations team that will work directly with your company to provide opportunities and support programs where you can volunteer as a team or donate items.

STRIVE. Strive is a program focused on providing at-risk individuals with a lifetime of professional and social services, focusing on helping with employment among other things. You can donate professional clothing, office supplies (including pens, notepads, and portfolios), and other items that would help people during the interview process (such as hygiene products).

ONGOING DONATION PROGRAMS IN YOUR AREA

Freecycle. This program is all over the country, and allows you to find a network of local people who are exchanging used goods. You can post items, such as clothing, furniture, office supplies, etc. and offer them to someone else, keeping items out of landfills.

National Cristina Foundation. This nonprofit accepts donations of office equipment and donates them to organizations and schools. You can search for a local organization easily from their homepage.

Put that clutter to good use by donating it to one of these great organizations, or support one of the many other local charities! For more hands-on office organizing tips and strategies, reach out to this NYC Professional Office Organizer.
