Objective: Create System for Organizing NYC Paperwork

This Client called me because she needed help with organizing the paperwork that entered her NYC home daily. She would just put the papers down on the closest surface so that there was paperwork scattered across her living room/dining room. She needed a system for organizing the paperwork that would be easy to follow and maintain. As her NYC living room/dining room was a good size, I needed to set a realistic expectation of how much paperwork could be organized during our session and be sure that the most important area was addressed first. We focused our efforts on the dining room table as it primarily served as a desk. I explained the process for sorting the papers and my client proceeded with tackling the papers and with some coaching successfully cleared the table and surrounding surfaces.

Before

  • Papers scattered on and around the table
  • Papers and mail that were no longer needed mixed in with papers that were needed
  • Action not being taken in a timely manner as the paperwork that served as the reminders were buried in the piles
  • Notes and research for new book was mixed in with all other papers on the table

After

  • Boxes set up on the table for the mail, to-do's, filing and shredding
  • Mail is processed daily with those items that are not needed immediately discarded
  • All book related paperwork was collected in a file box
  • Identifying and prioritizing the tasks represented by the papers in the to-do box to be done next
