Simple Ways To Organize When You Have ADHD

Establishing an organizational system at home can seem like the last thing someone with ADHD would want to do. However, organizing can prove extremely beneficial to those of us who live with ADHD, as it helps create structure. Integrating structure into our lives helps the ADHD brain thrive, as it can lead us to further success. That is why you might benefit from these simple tricks to organize when you have ADHD.

Make a List

Nothing is more stressful and overwhelming than waking up and thinking about the mountain of things you must do in the day. To counter that stress, you have to settle your swirling mind, and the best way to do that is with a list. A list is much more manageable and easy to tackle than randomly thinking of tasks you must do throughout the day and trying to get them done. It is most helpful to stick with writing three to four things down on your list and crossing them out as you go so as not to overwhelm yourself.

Graphic Reminders

The most significant challenge people with ADHD face when organizing their lives is combating their propensity for forgetfulness. Thankfully, the simplest way to mitigate that issue is by using graphic reminders to help keep your attention. If a deadline is fast approaching, you might benefit from writing it down on a sticky note and placing it right in front of you.

Don’t be afraid to place sticky notes wherever you think is the most opportune area you are sure to notice. For example, many people like to place reminders on their bathroom mirrors, front doors, and even in their cars.

Color-Code

Did you know that certain colors stick in our minds easier than other colors? That is great, and you can use it to your advantage. The colors that we are most likely to remember are oranges, yellows, and reds. If you have a briefing coming, you might consider using a red pen to prepare. Moreover, consider utilizing yellow or orange highlighters to emphasize any important dates or information you’ll need to recall.
