Professional Organizer in NYC’s Business Trip Packing Tips
Heading out of town for a business trip is not exactly like leaving on vacation. Yes, some of the same rules apply, but there are other aspects to consider. When you pack for your business trip, there are some simple items you need to consider. Check out this Professional Organizer in NYC’s list of what to pack for your next business trip.
Clothing. Some business functions have a strict dress code to follow. Make sure you review the itinerary before you begin packing or you’ll leave the golf and tennis clothing home and find yourself completely overdressed at a casual event.
Technology. This has quickly become one of the most important items on your business trip packing list! Whether you are bringing your phone, your laptop, a tablet, or all of the above, you need to take care in packing these items. Keep them protected in your bag, and consider keeping them in your carry on. Remember, too, to pack the charging cords. Label each one so it’s easier to find what you need during the busy moments after you arrive.
Business cards. This is so important, and yet so easily forgotten! When heading anywhere for business, you have the opportunity to make connections and do some networking for your business. Always pack extra business cards so that you can exchange them with those you meet. This will make it easier for them to stay in touch with you. Be sure to note something specific about each person you meet on the card that they give you so that you’ll have an easier time remembering them.
Notepad and pen. Though you will most likely have your phone or tablet on you at all times, there may be a time where you’d like to take notes. Keep a pen or pencil and a pad of paper with you for just such an occasion. Whether you are taking notes from a keynote speaker at a conference, or wanted to write down the name of a tool or program that a colleague suggested, you’ll be grateful to not have to search for or ask if anyone around you has a pen!
Reevaluate. After you’ve taken a business trip or two, it is a good time to reevaluate the items you’ve been packing. Check your bag and see what items you haven’t touched on your last few trips. Take those out and leave them at home. Maybe you were packing both your laptop and your tablet, but only used your tablet each time. Don’t pack more than you need, so leave the laptop at home on the next trip.
Making sure to update your packing list after each trip will not only minimize the amount of stuff that you take but will also reduce the amount of time needed for packing on the night before your departure.
